This year’s Independence Day celebration marks another milestone in Philippine history, having reached 125 years since the proclamation of Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898, in Kawit, Cavite. Filipinos all over the globe are celebrating in different ways but all similarly in honor of the Philippine nation.
Led by the Office of the President, the 125th anniversary of Philippine independence and nationhood will be commemorated from this year until 2026, along with more national historic milestones, including the birth of the Philippine Flag and National Anthem, the first Philippine Constitution, and the first Philippine Republic in Malolos, Bulacan, among others.
Locally, various communities celebrate the Philippine independence through loud and colorful festivities, tributes to historical heroes, volunteer work in the spirit of communal unity or the Bayanihan, formal dialogues about the nation’s journey towards independence, and other cultural programs highlighting the Philippines’ rich diversity.
